Ingvild Flaskerud

Ingvild Flaskerud is a Post Doc. Research Fellow at the Faculty of Theology, the University of Oslo.  She is presently involved in a Scandinavian research project which aims at analysing how religious authority is negotiated in contemporary Twelver Shi'ite thought and practice. Flaskerud holds a Ph. D in religious studies and her main field of interest is in Islamic studies, with particular attention to Twelver Shiism. She has done extensive field research in Iran and in Europe analysing Shia ritual, material, and visual culture, and its relationship to lived religion. Flaskerud has published a number of articles and book-chapters on these issues, in addition to the monograph, Visualizing Belief and Piety in Iranian Shiism. London and New York: Continuum, 2010, and the ethnographic film, "Standard-bearers of Hussein. Women commemorating Karbala", 2003.
